Problem Identification
- The UK has the highest obesity rate in EU at 24%
- 1 in 3 children in the UK are now being obese
- During the period of 1995 to 2004 the proportion of obese children has increased by 40%
- Most excisting applications target young kids
- Most excisting applications are boring/ordinary cartoon characters and gameplay, have bad design, a lack of information and interactivity
Solution & Concept
Raise awareness of the importance to a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise amongst teenagers by developing a concept that involves interacting with a character by personalising with the user’s own meals and activities. Then observing a consequence in the future such as diseases and social issues.
Style
Because of using comic characters, there was the danger that the application might look too childish for teenager. It was important to find a more "grown-up" and "cool" style for the interface. In the final design dark blue is used which gives the interface a mature look and works for both genders, male and female. Also, in order to understand the included features - which are important to play the application - easy and quickly, the design is kept simple and clean and thus allows a high level of usability.
